lyrics

We fell in love over a bottle of whiskey and some dead poet
I was playing my old guitar on my friend's couch and it started snowing
We both said we had to go, you wanted to take me home, I thought I'd blown it
When I left you at the door to your car, said goodnight and walked home alone again

I loved you up and down
In bedrooms, on hillsides, through the snow and the summer
Never wanted for nothing more, thought I was put on this Earth just to be your lover

Now I'm feeling that sad, scared desperate kind of lonely
You don't write about in songs that other people might hear
Just wishing you might come back home to me, lay down on your side of the bed and whisper into my ear:
"We fell in love over a bottle of whiskey and some dead poet"

I wrote this on my new guitar to say you're not coming back now, and I guess I know it
