Good For Me
04:35
|
|||
Never thought I'd be here, but all this comes as a surprise
Your poems and herbs and inky hands, the shifting color of your eyes
We come to cherish what we know, and so I always thought I'd be alone
But I think you're good for me, like vitamins, like dry wood on a cold night
Yeah I think you're good for me, like apples like your smile in the candle-light
I think you're good for me, like vegetables, like cool air in the mountains
I think you're good for me, like your arms around me in the log walls of your cabin
I can't promise I'll always be the kind of man who comes to you with songs and poetry
We can all feel small sometimes and already it's hard to believe
That I could ever be worth all the good things that you've given me
But as long as you want to keep going I think I'll want to keep going
Because I think you're good for me, like anti-oxidants, like a light at the end of all my bad dreams
Yeah I think you're good for me

Bennie's Song
03:27
|
|||
Looks like I drank up all your wine again
Sometimes I wonder why you let me in
But if you've ever got a willing ear
You know I've got a story
I hear you've gone and fallen in love again
It's been a while since I've felt that my friend
Oh but you know I'll always raise a glass
Cause this world needs love
Warmth and wine on a winter's night
Such a simple comfort in the fading light
As I walk home I wish you all the best my friend
Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing here
When winter settles in and all my fears
About the future bring their weight to bear
With the falling snow
But you know dark nights never feel so long
With friends like you to pull the time along
No matter how the clocks spin on and on
There's always one more laugh, one more song
Warmth and wine on a winter's night
Such a simple comfort in the fading light
As I walk home I wish you all the best my friend
Til the Spring comes I wish you all the best my friend

Walk Away
03:55
|
|||
I left you back in the Spring
That time of year when everybody does such stupid things
Like fall in love or fall through the ice cause you just can't wait
For something coming in the air on those warm southern winds
And you know I never felt lonely til I saw you again
I never recognize the good things in life til they're gone
I'll just walk away
Close the door
Cause you're the only one I want and you don't want me anymore
I wish that I could write something brilliant enough to bring back what left
Go back to the days I woke up in your bed
But I'll just walk away and wait for another day
I kinda wish you had someone else
I could tell myself that I just lost out
But it seems you'd rather be alone
I could do alright myself except for the nights
Laying awake in bed alone under the cold moonlight
Without your shape in the dark to remind me of the dawn

Under the Stars
03:14
|
|||
I've been out walking beneath the stars and I
Found a place we could both hide away
And I'd like to take you there
And I'd let you take me anywhere
They shone so bright up in the Northern sky
Blinking on and off like ten million fireflies
And I knew that you'd think it was beautiful
And I want to show you everything beautiful
I climbed into the great bear's mouth and I
Watched Orion fire arrows all across the sky
They fell as shooting stars, lay scattered all over the ice
I brought them home, laid them before you just to watch your eyes
Cause I knew that you'd think they were beautiful
And I want to show you everything beautiful

What's that Thing on the Roof?
What's that thing on the roof?
I can hear it crawling around
What the fuck is that thing on the roof?
Since you been gone
There's no one here to keep my mind from wandering on
Inventing strange creatures and singing weird songs
Well I been reading lots of books
Some classic gothic literature
You could call it self-improvement
Something to make you think I'm more mature
But you can't make somebody love you by being clever
You can't make somebody love you if the feelings just not there
It's like trying to teach a fish to dance when it's struggling in the air
Alright so I'm no good with metaphors
But you know I never met-a-one that I liked more
Than you my dear and you'll say that's corny but I don't really care
Cause tell me what's the use in rhyming anyway?
Nothing works right ever since you went away
Guess I'll just burn these books for kindling
And hope the library will forgive me
Bram Stoker can stoke my fire
Cause it ain't healthy to read about vampires
When you're alone in the dark and the night's running wild
What's that thing on the roof?
What's that thing on the roof?
I can hear a sound like dancing on cloven hoofs, what's that thing on the roof?
I'm getting my axe, I'm gong outside
I'm gonna face the world, I'm gonna face the night
With or without you by my side and I'm gonna be alright
But there are no tracks out in the snow
Nothing moving in the lantern's glow
Guess I'll just chop some wood, feed the fire, and crawl back to bed alone

All It Takes is a Match
03:07
|
|||
All it takes is a match held to the wick
To break the dark
All it takes is a will or the whip
To break the heart of something wild
And oh, I'd like to see
The flames untame themselves again and break free
Ghosts of the wild in the night, come back, come back
All it takes is time
To break or to build again
The winter always breaks
And with the river the Spring comes rushing in
And oh, I'd like to see
The water breach it's banks again and break free
Leave just the wild and we
And we'd begin again
